Praetorius vs. Bingen

Bingen's work has more of a church related theme where as Praetorius's piece is a more secular, love typed work.

Praetorius was from Germany and lived from 1571-1621 In this time, music was turning away from the church and becoming more secular, or non-religion based. This was what Praetorius was well known for. He was one of the early secular writers and opened to door for more to come.

Bingen lived from 1098-1179. She was known strongly for her religions works. Her works were centered around the church and were monophonic, or one voice.

The difference between these two composers is that not only were they 400 years apart but also because one was secular and one was not. Praetorius was polyphonic and secular while Bingen was religious and monophonic.
