Three songs

Song #1
The first song is What is Going On by Marvin Gaye. It was written in 1971. It reminds of a kind of wedding song because of the lyrics and the way the song sounds. The main sounds in this song are bass, drums, vocals. snapping and sometimes keyboard. One think I really like about this song is all of the vocal layers that this song contains.

Song #2
This song is Diamonds in the Soul of her Shoes. It was written in 1985 and sung by Paul Simon. I like the African twist Simon puts on this song, I love the a Capella sound it has in the beginning.  I also like how to me it has a sort of island sound and makes me think of the keys or the Bahamas. I also like the horn instruments in this song, it gives it a nice unique sound.

Song #3
This song was written in 1994 by the band Live. The genre of this song is obviously rock. The main instruments in it are drums, bass, guitar and vocals. The drums have a nice steady beat and the bass line guides the song a long. This is a more upbeat song which i enjoy and it also has multitudes of vocal layers which harmonize very well.

Independent Artist

The Independent artist I found that I like is named NoNeedz. He is a Pop and Hip Hop artist from San Diego, California. He is an artist that mixes many different types of music together allowing him to be liked by many different people who enjoy different genres. I found him on indie-music.com I like him because he is a very upbeat artist and his lyrics and the speed of the lyrics really go with the music and they link together well.

Two song groups

The first song is more of a techno song which I think was written in maybe the later 1980's. One really big part of this song is the steady drum beat that is there throughout the whole song. It really brings out the beat of the song and sets down and nice track for the rest of the instruments and the vocals. Throughout the song, the beat of the music and the sound of it don't really change except a couple times making the song sound the same a lot of the time. It uses instruments such as the bass, drums of course, guitar and it sounds like there is a turn table added in this song also.

The second song is also has a hint of techno to it and it is pretty fast pace. I think the song might be written about the same time maybe a few years later. In this song, the vocals really are the thing you pay attention to because they are louder and the song is more centralized around them as apposed to the other song where the drum really is the main center of focus.

These two songs have many things that make them alike and they also have many things that make them different. One way they are both the same is that both of them have many layers of sound that mix together to make the song good. Another way they are the same is that both of the songs both you a strong drum beat to propel the beat and song forward. They are also different in the way that the second song is more of a hardcore song than the first and is a little darker. Also, the first one is more techno than the second because it uses the turn table to get a nice sound as the second doesn't use it that much.

This song is quite dark at the beginning of this song. I know this song is recent so it was probably made in the last 8 years. Flyleaf emphasizes a lot of guitar and bass into this song. in this song there are 5 layers of sound that I could find, bass, drums, guitar, and 2 vocals. The vocals in this song add to the very dark and mysterious nature of the song due to the words and just the sound of the music behind the voice.

This song drops down a sick bass line that leads the song but does not go along with the same beat as the rest of the instruments and the vocals. Also, the guitar also shows itself throughout the entire song just like the first one. From what I could hear, this song has 4 layers of sound, bass, guitar, drums and one vocal layer. The message of this song is about the idea of love and heartbreak.

These songs are the same in a couple ways. One way they are the same is the fact that both of them use a lot of bass and guitar in them and throughout the whole song you can hear both of them in both of these songs. Another way they are both the same is that both of them are talking about the bad parts of relationships and love, such as being sick of someone and what they do, and the heartbreak people get from the actions of the other. One way they are different is that the flyleaf song is a lot more dark and screamo oriented in some parts than the second song is and it just has a darker demeanor to the song itself.
